One of the original four Beatles, John Lennon’s song, “Dreamer” struck a chord with Maxwell Dickson in his ideal portrayal of a utopian world. Dickson found the ever-famous photo powerful in that it emasculated Lennon and depicted him as one who was in touch with a more sensitive side of himself while Yoko Ono assumes a more sturdy position. The presence of Ono is indispensable because of her influence and role in Lennon’s life. Their unusual union introduced new perspectives and redefined romantic relationships. Dickson was inspired by the message of their story and the photo, that two different people from different worlds could share their lives together and change for one another, despite the disapproval of others. This again reiterates the preservation of one’s integrity, desires, and remaining true to oneself and one’s dreams.
